Jpegmafia Alpharetta Concert reviews
Small, but wonderful
The night was made enjoyable by fans of all ages attending this event, which was a slightly disappointing experience for me at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Van Andel Arena, being a smaller venue, limited the available exhibits. Traffic was made difficult as all the exhibits were immediately inside the main doors.
The costumed characters, wonderfully created, were located on the second level. It was a great addition to the night, understanding these were volunteers and not normally part of the regular SWIC experience. Not all were able to get pictures with the characters, due to the lack of room being a problem.
The concert experience itself was wonderful! The musicians never missed a note, and the intonation and articulations were spot-on! From the THX introduction and the 20th Century Fox Fanfare to the encore of the Imperial March, one could almost expect to be seeing the show as being prerecorded. I had to wonder at intermission if some of the vocalists were local talent brought in specifically for the show. However, it was odd to see beer being served at a symphony concert. We witnessed one patron who had enjoyed the alcohol a bit too much and made a fool of himself in front of the children. Fortunately, nothing foul was said (or it was intelligible). Many of them walking the halls and enjoying the second half were seen. A few changes were made to the show since we saw it at Auburn Hills. I also believe there was a different conductor at this show, who still did a fabulous job. Anthony Daniels (C3PO, narrator) was wonderful as always. Caught him with a single misspoken line, but was done well.
The lack of pyrotechnics was the most noticeable change in the show. I never asked, but suspect some local ordinances or the venue itself may have had something to do with it. I would recommend this show to any Jpegmafia fan, movie music lover, or live symphony patron.
